#1st CALL:Introduction

*
The name's Mohd Afiq Arshad Yaakub.People-which encompasses friends and acquaintances-call me Acad or Arshad.I would like to be called Arshad.Adam Arshad is my pseudo.I am 23 years young and I like to count my age according to the date I was born into this world, like how it should be, not according to the year.

*
I would dub myself as a novice because obviously I am no expert in navigating or handling the computer or any computer related materials. The most high tech gadget that I posses I would say is my Sony Ericson K5301i mobile phone-not considering my laptop-, which is definitely not the most high tech machine of the entire world. However, I am not that illiterate.I know how to use the computer and some of the software. To be accurate, I say I am between novice and illiterate as I don't know how to manage some high tech programmes and when it comes to this technology related topic, I'm kind of distant myself because frankly, I think I'm way behind everyone. However, I really really want to enlighten myself on things that I have no slightest inkling.

*
I don't really have that much knowledge on software and hardware.I can comfortably say that my knowledge of those items is on the surface level. For example I know how to differentiate between a printer and a scanner, which I believe looking at the different and numerous patterns of both of them, some may find it hard to distinguish between those two.On the other hand, my software list is not that eccentric.I have Skype, YM, MSN, Picasa, and some other common and typical software you'd find in an adult and novice's PC or laptop.

*
Personally, my experience with learning via the computer regardless online or offline is rather limited.I learn how to work my way through computer by myself.I once enrolled in an online language learning course which is LiveMocha.com.I took a 3 months language learning course and it was introduced to me by my friends. The site did assist me in learning my intended language which was Spanish. Not to brag but I can understand some words or sentences in the language.Other than that, I just couldn't recall any other experience learning via the computer.

*
I did incorporate technology in some of my lessons during practicum and I firmly feel that it was a success. The lessons that I implemented technology were the ones that my students seem to enjoy and treasure, so I was told.Honestly writing I was scared to incorporate technology as I myself am not an IT savvy and I fear of being corrected by the students. However, I took my chance and apparently the students and I exchanged knowledge on our niche.

*
I would definitely suggest the use of computer/technology in language teaching because it would be a great escapism from the old traditional chalk and talk method.Students too will engage and find it to be fruitful and meaningful because they can indirectly learn the computer apart from the lesson itself.I think students should be taught or introduced to the learning via computer method because this will provide them with a huge aid in the future.Take me for an example, I started to get to know the computer at a very late age thus making me alien about the usage of teaching and learning via computer and technology.

*
Like I mentioned earlier, I have a very limited knowledge about computer and technology thus I hope that this course will aid me in enhancing my knowledge in that matter. At least, I would know to integrate technology in my lessons if I were to become an educator in the future.

p.s. The title of the blog is taken from a name of an American band called The Calling. One of its famous songs is Wherever you will go.
